Bell View Trail is accessible from a residential area and can be hiked for a number of miles as a loop or just out and back. It includes a lot of hills as well as picturesque views of the Saddleback Mountain range and, on a clear day, Catalina Island.
I hiked 3 miles along Bell View Trail with my mom and sister during the week between Christmas and New Year. My parents recently moved to Robinson Ranch and have been discovering a number of trails right in their backyard! We had to walk about half a mile on some neighborhood sidewalks before arriving at the entrance to Bell View Trail along Robinson Ranch Road, right after Vista.
The start of Bell View Trail is an incline and, while part of the path is flat, the hills continue for the duration of this hike. Since it was so warm and the trail was not covered, we hiked along this trail for only 3 miles, however, this trail can be hiked either out and back or as a loop for longer than 3 miles. You can see the expanse of this trail on Google Maps here.
Not only does this trail offer incredible view of the Saddleback Mountain range the whole way, but in the other direction, you can also see Catalina Island on a clear day. With all the fires that have plagued Southern California recently the horizon was quite hazy, but I look forward to doing this hike again to witness stunning views in both directions. Thankfully, the western view this time around wasn’t too shabby 😉
In addition to bringing plenty of water, a hat, and sunglasses, I would highly recommend wearing trail shoes for this hike. The inclines on this hike were difficult being pregnant and I had to be extra cautious on the downhills, grabbing on to my mom and sister, as the dirt was very loose and it was hard to get my footing.
Did you hike Bell View Trail? If so, did you go out and back or do a loop? I would love to hear your thoughts!
